Harris Green Village
Harris Green Village is an opportunity to create a vibrant urban mixed-use community to be used by everyone.
Our approach is to redevelop Harris Green Village with the input of the community to create a burgeoning neighbourhood containing purpose built-rental homes and commercial spaces. We recognize this is an important area of Victoria which acts as a gateway to downtown and a place that many members of the community utilize. We encourage ongoing input from the community to help make this project a success.
Harris Green Village
Today, Harris Green is a vibrant neighbourhood and has a meaningful place in the hearts of those in the community. Victoria’s Official Community Plan identifies Harris Green for substantial residential growth, and as a result this is one of the fastest growing neighbourhoods in Victoria.
The Harris Green Village sites include the 900 block of Yates Street and east portion of the 1000 block of Yates Street. A rezoning application will include both sites.
The proposal is to develop a vibrant mixed-use community with rental housing, commercial offerings, a public square and green space in the heart of Victoria.
• 1,500 purpose-built rental homes of all sizes offered between 3 phases
• Nearly half an acre of public open space including a public square and village green
• Over 100,000 sq.ft. of retail including restaurants, coffee shops, grocery shopping and a variety of boutique shops and services
• Resident amenities such as landscaped courtyards, rooftop social spaces, outdoor barbecue and dining areas, kids play areas, dog runs, lounges, gyms, and fitness studios
After announcing our intention to redevelop Harris Green Village for a mixed-use community, we held a series of community events in June and July 2019.
On June 13 and June 15, 2019, we held two “Ideas Open Houses”, with the goal of introducing Starlight and beginning a conversation with the community about the future of Harris Green Village. These events were highly interactive and designed to encourage community feedback on a wide range of planning and urban design topics. Participant exit surveys indicated a high level of satisfaction with these events.
On July 16, 2019, we had community members join us for an evening of collaborative planning. The purpose of the event was to exchange insights from the “Ideas Open Houses”, provide an educational introduction to the fundamentals of placemaking, and to engage community members and encourage them to express their own development concepts for the site using an interactive exercise.
A successful project balances community knowledge, good planning, financial viability, and professional expertise, and we are very excited to be bringing forward this comprehensive proposal.
